Jewellery Guide

There are many things that can affect the condition of your jewellery, so it is important to take proper care in wearing, cleaning and storing it. The following is a guide to taking care of your Miriam Markham jewellery.

Care

Sterling silver tarnishes naturally over time. Your sterling silver jewellery will tarnish faster when it comes into contact with materials such as perfume, skin creams, chlorine and chemicals. We recommend that you remove your Miriam Markham jewellery when showering, bathing and swimming in the sea or chlorinated water. Always protect your jewellery from scratches and knocks to keep it looking beautiful.

Storage

Sterling silver jewellery should be stored away from sunlight and heat and ideally kept in a dark, cool, dry place. It is best to store jewellery in individual tarnish resistant pouches or plastic zip lock bags. Ensure these are not polyvinyl plastic bags, such as bin liners, as the sulphur compounds within the plastic cause the silver to tarnish faster. Keeping your jewellery in separate zip lock bags stops it from getting tangled or rubbing against other pieces of jewellery.

Please note that our Miriam Markham jewellery gift boxes are not made for long-term storage as they are not airtight.

Cleaning

To clean your Miriam Markham jewellery we recommend cleaning with lukewarm soapy water and a soft cloth, ensuring your jewellery is not submerged. Using a silver polishing cloth regularly can help to prevent and remove the natural process of tarnishing. We do not recommend the use of silver polish or other strong chemicals in cleaning your jewellery, as well as the use of tissue paper or paper towels as these may cause scratches to the silver and gemstones. We encourage customers to take note of our guide on ‘Care’ of yourMiriam Markham jewellery.
